Fact or Fad

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.”-― Søren Kierkegaard

Health advice can be found everywhere, from magazines, to blogs, internet articles, and websites. There are entire TV shows and cable channels devoted to giving us the health advice we crave. For some this advice seems to take the place of the advice we receive from our doctors and health professionals. There is no shortage of sources or people looking to give us health advice. But how accurate is this advice? Where does this advice come from? Is there any merit to any of it? Why are we so willing to follow this advice? What makes us listen to the advice we read or hear on TV over the advice of experts?

We set out to discover some of the biggest fads and see if there are any facts to back them up or if like all fads they are destined to fade into obscurity. We examine some of the most popular fads, blogs and health advice to see what is based in fact and what is just a fad. We also explore what makes us so drawn to fads and what can be done to decipher truth from fiction. We’ll help show you what to look for and give examples of real experts with real advice and how to tell fact from fad.
